During World War II, Griswold is able to identify a Nazi spy from the fact that he actually knows all four verses of the Star Spangled Banner.

OK, OK. I don’t like most of the Union Club mysteries a heck of a lot, but this one elicits a delighted chuckle from me, because of Asimov’s rather satirical turning of a hoary cliche on its head.
