Larry’s Dad brings home a copy of the New York Times which is, somehow, the source of the key word used in a code the Department is trying to crack, and Larry is able to point out how the crossword puzzle, which he has just completed, might be where the key word is found.

Reasonably good. The Larry mysteries are aimed at an audience in its early teens or preteen years, and so the main objection to this story is that one might not necessarily expect members of the audience not in the New York area to be familiar with the notorious Times crosswords. Otherwise, it’s fine.
